Silver Bullet #8

I've been privileged over the last few months, to have weaseled my way into position to be offered the colouring duties on Brett Wood's Silver Bullet comic book.

The Silver Bullet is a successful indie comic that is right up my alley. Reviewer Chad Nevett described the awesomeness of this series as follows:

"He’s a kind of dickish superhero that’s best friends with Big Foot, gets sent back in time by an alien, joins forces with a guy from the 1980s, saves a hot alien princess from some other aliens, gets sent back to the year 2000 where we learn he’s a werewolf and he bites his past self to turn himself into a werewolf before a Nazi werewolf gives his past self the Silver Bullet costume, he’s rescued by his superhero buddies from the present, and his past self hooks up with a former dinosaur that’s not a beautiful woman. I think. I might have gotten a detail or two wrong, but that’s the gist of these five issues. As I said, it’s batsh*t insane."

I love crazy roller coaster rides like this - there's not enough fun and crazy books being put out like this.

Silver Bullet #8 is going to be released later this year, both in print and for the iPad/iPhone via Comixology. It was the first issue of the series to feature colour, and I'm honoured to be the first person to put some hues to Wood's art!

The comic has a Silver Age feel to it, especially since it's written in the "Marvel Method", where Brett Wood's draws out a plot, and it's scripted afterwards (by Eric Rampson). With that in mind, I used my experience in doing colour reconstruction on the Marvel Masterworks line of hardcovers and used the same colour palette and style used in the books before computer colouring hit the scene.

My goal was to have this book look like it was published any time between the 1960's-1980's. In particular, I studied a lot of the convention shattering colouring work that Neal Adams did at Marvel during the Kree-Skrull War, and his stint on the X-Men. Obviously, I've not even come close to his brilliance, but in my own way, some panels and pages I did here are an homage to that aspect of his work.
