Both the Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers won today. In a strange bit of coincidence, my first game for each of the two iterations of the Winnipeg Jets has been on days where the Blue Bombers have also won.
The last time both teams won a game on the same day was October 19, 1991.
October 19, 1991 was the first Winnipeg Jets game I went to. The Jets beat the Leafs 4-2, and the Blue Bombers throttled the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 68-14.
October 22, 2011 was the first Winnipeg Jets game I'd been to since the Jets returned. The Jets beat the Hurricanes 4-1, and across town the Bombers beat the Montreal Alouettes 26-25.
It's a nice bit of personal trivia that I'll probably be telling people at parties for years to come whether they want to listen or not. I, Donovan Lee Yaciuk, had my first game for each Winnipeg Jets team occur on a day when the Blue Bombers also won.
It felt great to be able to shout "Go Jets Go" with an arena full of people. I hadn't done that in over a decade and a half. The NHL truly belongs in Winnipeg. I could barely hear myself talk, the screaming banshees were so loud!
